Instagram, launched in October of 2010 is unique to it's fellow social media platforms. Depending how the user wishes to utilize the app, it incorporates still images, video/live-video, blog-style posting, retail/marketing/advertising, personal use and most interestingly curation. I say 'most interestingly' because I think the flexibility of what you can create and who you can reach is something unique to it. As a result, users have expanded it's possibilities creating a community of curators and curated profiles that differs from all other social media.

Where other popular platforms have lacked, Instagram has seemed to fill that void.

I am most interested in exploring the curator community. All other social platforms have curator 'Pages' or 'profiles' for example a YouTube channel dedicated to reviewing country music or a Tumblr page focused on the animation of Studio Ghibli. However Instagram differs in that it's curator's / curated pages are focused on aesthetics as much as they are concerned with social/ cultural commentary.

The 10 Instagram pages that I will explore and provide links to are examples of curated portfolios that, aesthetically speaking, differ, however the common factor is that they all are fascinated with and comment on human and cultural beauty.

Happy reading :)
